Split Decision Farm is a small, family owned/operated cattle ranch in Central Texas which raises registered Limousin and LimFlex cattle.
After moving from Houston to Fayette County in 2014, we decided to raise cattle. Due to family ties, we began with some Dexter cattle, but we’ve never been huge fans due to genetic disorders and what we viewed as a lower beef quality. After doing our due diligence, we elected to get into the Limousin breed due to their low birthweight, solid genetics, and excellent yield: both quality and quantity.
In 2017, we acquired a second tract of land just down the road from our homestead (thus derives the name split decision) and our journey has taken off.
The cows dictate when our beef is available. When our cows deliver a male offspring that we don't intend to sell for production, then we "prepare" them to be food.
How do we sell our beef?
We offer both sides (half) and quarters for our beef cattle priced by hanging weight (typically between 400 and 800#).
Fine, what's the price?
We sell our beef for $5.00 per pound of hanging weight. As an example, if the steer has a hanging weight of 600# and you're interested in a quarter, the estimated cost would be $750. A full side would be $1500. We provide the steer and pay standard processing costs.
What cuts and what sizes do I get?
Portions and cuts are very much subjective and can vary widely across cut and steer. Generally, roasts are packages in 3# portions wrapped individually, hamburger in 2# portions, and steaks 1" to 1.5" thickness wrapped individually. You'll also get sirloin, flank, 'fajita meat', round steaks, stew meat, and a lot of hamburger.
Do you ship?
No. Shipping costs are quite high and both negates the cost-benefit for the consumer as well as provide us with a huge hassle. Sorry, our beef is only available for pickup in Fayette County, TX.
Do you sell individual pieces
No. State law reqiures all individual sales to be labelled for individual sale. We are not setup for this requirement and do not plan to at this time.
